Future Highschool AU (Edited English version)

“Hey nerd!”

I turned around.

“Where have you been? I was getting really worried dude!” exclaimed Jack, and with a red head he came running across the schoolyard. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.

“Sorry, my dad told me to take Toothless for a walk.”

Nervously, I plucked at my green scarf.

“Didn’t he have the time to do that himself?”

Jack looked at me and I got weak at the knees.

“N-No, he had to do some paperwork for that stupid job of his.”

“Being mayor isn’t that bad, sitting at a desk, cutting ribbons...”

Jack shook his head gently.

“Your dad can’t complain.”

“He doesn’t. In fact, he wants me to be the next mayor when he retires and when I’m old enough.”

A little upset, I stared at my shoes and imagined I wore my father’s gigantic shoes. I quickly looked back up, reminded by myself that I had to be social for once. Jack’s icy blue eyes softened.

“Don’t you want to?”

I shook my head. Me? Doing that what my dad has been talking me into for years? Never! I wasn’t a punk like Jack, but I sure as hell could stand up for myself, nerd or not.

“Nah, I’d rather work with animals or build prosthetics or something.”

“Don’t they have robots for that?”

“Designing them, fine. I know exactly how to make them as comfortable as possible. What does a robot know about having one of those?”

Together, we laughed at my comment. I saw Jack staring at my left leg. Well, leg... He noticed that I knew he was staring at me and he quickly looked away. Now it was my turn to take a peek. I just noticed that Jack got a new piercing, a ring through his right eyebrow. Why hadn’t he told me before? I’d ask him about it sometime.

“Is there something else you’d want to be?”

I didn’t have to think about that.

“Pilot. I think that’s so cool. I really want to fly! Up there I just feel...”

“Free.” Jack added, and gave me an understanding smile.

“I know what you mean. But let’s be real, there hasn’t been a single human pilot in 17 years.”

I nodded sadly. He was right. It was a stupid dream and not a thing more than that.

“By the way, did you see my piercing? Sick, isn’t it?”

Jack grinned, even though nobody ever sees him that happy.

“Yeah, when-”

“Yesterday. My mom wasn’t so happy. She thinks it’s a bad influence to Emma, but I don’t care. I can make my own decisions.”

He kicked away a pebble.

It was already later on the day, but since it was begin autumn, the sun was still shining. And wow, Jack looked great in that light... Huh, what? Did I really think that? No! Or did I? I was confused. I was shocked. I was scared. Scared of what my dad would say. Scared of what Jack would think about it. Still, I couldn’t help myself and let my eyes wander over his body. Shit, did he see it?! For a moment I thought I saw him looking at me the same way. Wait, what? I tried to suppress the thought.

“Is something wrong Hiccup?” Jack asked with one raised eyebrow.

I looked him over again. From his black hair that was styled with a lot of gel, to his dark red T-shirt and leather jacket, to his black ripped skinny jeans en black boots. I looked him right in the eyes.

“I...”

“What, Hiccup? What’s wrong?”

“Uh...”

I looked down at the ground. I didn’t want to look at him right now. He stepped closer, I heard. He put his hands on my shoulders, and I took a deep breath.

“Hiccup...”

I tried not to, but I found myself staring in his eyes again. I blushed and Jack chuckled.

“I think I get it...” he said with a low voice.

My face was turned to the ground, but I looked at him through my eyelashes. His hand moved from my shoulders to my waist. Startled, I looked up. He was already waiting for me and pressed his lips against my own.

And we stayed like that for a long time... Until the security robot removed us from the schoolyard.
